Knitted Knockers

This weekend I had the privilege of working with Chuck Wilmesher of Skacel to photograph some very special designer submissions up for auction.

Here, go take a look.

Yes. Knitted Knockers. Have you heard of this organization? They provide soft, light, knitted breast prosthetics for mastectomy patients. And they do it for free. At STITCHES West this weekend, XRX partnered up to sponsor a designer challenge. Knitting and crochet experts showed off their signature techniques by creating unique “Art Knockers” to be auctioned off. All the proceeds will go to Barb and her wonderful group of volunteers to continue providing this lovely and useful gift for cancer patients. There is also a raffle on that page open till this Friday, Feb. 26. Each gift of ten dollars enters you in a drawing to get a deluxe STITCHES Expo prize package. It’s worth checking out.

This whole story hits very close to home for me, because as I type this, I’ve just arrived in Arizona to support my mom as she prepares to have a double mastectomy on March 8. She has already requested some knitted knockers from me, and it will be a special pleasure to make some for her.

If you  have someone in your life who has fought the cancer fight and you’re looking for a unique and personal way to make a difference, we hope you’ll consider supporting this great cause. You can give money or make knockers to be given away. They’re fun to knit or crochet and only take a few hours.

Speaking of that auction, find Gwen’s Bodacious Entre-ta-tas here, and bid for a one-of-a-kind art piece from your favorite Entrelac expert!
